Visit Great Falls Park, VA
At Great Falls, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as it falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and flows through the narrow Mather Gorge. Great Falls Park has many opportunities to explore history and nature, all in a beautiful 800-acre park only 15 miles from the Nation's Capital. Explore one of the nation's first canals, see the Great Falls of the Potomac, or enjoy a hike along Mather Gorge's dramatic clifftops. Park hours are 7 a.m. until dark, every day. The three falls overlooks are located within a five to ten minute walk from the visitor center and parking lots. Trail maps are available at the visitor center and entrance station. The Visitor Center is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily. Stop by for trail maps, brochures, and information. A Great Falls Park Vehicle Permit costs $10 which admits one single, private, non-commercial vehicle and all its passengers. If you're entering the park by foot, bicycle, or horse, the fee is $5.
